Details
A simple frock in mul-mul woven in Phulia, Nadia district, West Bengal. Two layers of 60 GSM, so it is opaque without a lining, and light enough that a child will keep it on through an April afternoon. A gathered yoke, short sleeves and a full skirt that lets a child run. Dyed with natural madder and myrobalan, which fades a shade lighter over the first two washes and then stays. Elastic is only at the sleeve hems, never at the waist, so nothing digs. Allow 2 to 3 percent shrinkage on the first wash, mul-mul always relaxes.
