Details

An Ilkal saree woven in Ilkal, Bagalkot district, Karnataka, on frame looms that have made this weave for centuries. The body is 110 GSM handloom cotton and the pallu is mulberry silk joined to the body by the traditional tope teni knotted join, which you can see if you look at the seam. The borders are the classic Ilkal gomi teni in contrast, woven in, not printed on. Colours are azo-free reactive on the cotton and natural on the silk pallu, so a deep shade will let go of a little colour in the first two washes. Length is 6.3 m including a 0.8 m blouse piece. Cotton relaxes, so expect about 2 percent on the first wash and buy the length with that in mind.
