Plain-weave handloom cotton from Kannur, Kerala, at 140 GSM in 60s two-ply yarn, 44 in usable width. This is shirting and kurta cloth. It takes a crisp press, it holds a collar, and it does not thin at the fold after a year in the cupboard. Yarn-dyed with azo-free dyes in solids, checks and fine stripes, so the colour goes through the thread and nothing bleeds when your tailor pre-washes it. Ask for a pre-wash before cutting anyway, because handloom cotton relaxes about 3 percent and it is better to lose it before the scissors. Cut continuously in one piece, rolled on a kraft tube, never folded flat.
