Details
Lakadong is a turmeric variety, not a marketing word. It grows on the terraced slopes around Lakadong village in the Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya, in shade, without irrigation, and it carries roughly three times the curcumin of ordinary market turmeric. Rhizomes are lifted after the leaves die back, boiled, sun-dried for about ten days on bamboo mats, then milled cold in small lots, because a fast hammer mill heats the powder and burns off the volatile oil.
