Seed collected from small seed-keeper households in the Kumaon hills and the Deccan, kept as open-pollinated lines rather than hybrids. That single choice is the point: an open-pollinated plant sets seed that grows true, so the second season costs you nothing and the third belongs to you. Each variety comes in a paper packet with its germination percentage and test date printed on it, plus sowing depth and spacing.
