Details
An open-laced derby in 1.6 mm full-grain calf, built on a Goodyear welt. A welted shoe carries a strip of leather stitched to the upper and the insole rib, and the outsole is then stitched to that strip. Nothing structural depends on glue, and the stitch that holds the outsole sits on the welt, not on the upper, so the outsole can be cut away and replaced without touching the shoe above it. The cavity between insole and outsole is filled with cork, which packs down over the first month into a bed shaped to your foot. Calf leather takes a deep patina at the toe and along the flex line. Polish it, do not hide it.
