A picture book about the six seasons of the Indian year: vasanta, grishma, varsha, sharad, hemanta and shishira. One spread each, following the same courtyard and the same neem tree through all six, so a child can find the changes rather than be told them. The mynah nests, the tree drops its leaves, the water tank is covered, the well drops, the terrace comes back into use. The words are few and the pictures carry it. Illustrated in watercolour by Anjali Deshmukh and reproduced without heavy correction, so the paint still looks like paint. A closing page for a parent or teacher gives the months of each season and what to look for outdoors. Printed on 170 gsm uncoated matt board, thick enough for small hands to turn without creasing, and sewn so a spread lies flat on the floor where picture books are actually read.
